Raman took four similar pots (with a hole at the base) each with equal amount of different type of soil. He then placed these four pots on four similar dishes and poured water slowly on each soil sample. He used a stopwatch to measure the time taken by water to reach the level, he had marked at the same height in each dish.

The results obtained by him were tabulated in the table shown here.

Raman took four similar pots (with a hole at the base) each with equal amount of different type of soil. He then placed these four pots on four similar dishes and poured water slowly on each soil sample. He used a stopwatch to measure the time taken by water to reach the level he had marked at the same height in each dish. The results obtained by him were tabulated in the table shown . The soil whose particles are fine and are closely packed together will not have much space between the particles. So, water will pass slowly through such soil, and will take more time to reach the marked level. On the other hand, the soil whose particles are big and are loosely held together – like sandy soil - will have ample space between the particles. So, water will pass easily through such soil, and will take less time to reach the marked level. The table shows that the water has taken the least amount of time – 35 seconds – to pass through Soil Y and reach the marked level. That means Soil Y will be most suitable for the plant which thrives in sandy soil. Hence, the correct answer is Option C.

Answer should be (A) because the soil from which the water took 35 seconds to pass, must be gravel as we all have read that there are 4 types of soils 1)gravel 2)sandy soil 3)loamy soil and 4)clay. Sandy soil comes in 2nd place when you conduct an experiment about the abilities of the quantity of water the type of soil can absorb. so I say that the sandy soil should be the one that let the water pass through it in 48 seconds.
