Scientists in Iceland and Denmark confirm existence of a narwhal-beluga hybrid whale (narluga - a mash up of both names together) through tests on a 30-year-old skull. The skull was originally found by a hunter in Greenland and stored at the Natural History Museum of Denmark.
In a 1993 study, researchers at the Society of Marine Mammalogy thought the skull belonged to a hybrid whale because of its unusual teeth and size. Narwhals have only one or rarely two long spiraling tusks whereas belugas can have up to 40 pointed teeth in straight rows. The hybrid skull had a mix of both - a set of long, spiraling and pointy teeth. It was also larger in size than a narwhal or a beluga skull. But at the time, lack of DNA knowledge kept the skull's owner in the dark, until recently, when a new study was published in Scientific Reports that finally uncovered the truth.
The findings proved it belonged to a hybrid offspring with a narwhal for its mother and a beluga for its father. "Even with the absence of a tusk and different mating systems, successful mating can still occur between a male beluga and a female narwhal," the study said. Normally, scientists have a hard time observing both narwhals and belugas during their mating season (late winter to late spring). However, there are a few places where there is enough population of both marine animals. Disko Bay, where the skull was discovered, is one of them. Scientists believe this skull might be the only evidence that proves narlugas exist.
They used powdered bone samples from 18 narwhals and 18 belugas skulls and compared the skull to the DNA found from eight narwhals and eight belugas from Greenland. And voila! A 30-yearold skull's story makes way for a new scientific discovery.
This is not the only mix of species that has happened, but it is the first-time cross breeding has been proved in marine life. One reason for this is the fact that the evidence is so difficult to find and often when it is, it is found by hunters who destroy it.

Scientists think the skull may be ______.

Afake
Bunique
Ca juvenile
Done of many

Read the passage and answer the question.

1. Anna didn't care about Christmas gifts or decorating Christmas trees. She did not wish for Santa or a new toy. For 6 year old Anna eating marshmallows without her mother breathing down her neck was more important than the holiday season. She had been counting days on her little fingers when Halloween will come and when she will be the official owner of her own sweets with various choices.
2. Anna was busy counting her Halloween harvest. This year she had gone one block extra because she was no longer a baby who cried when the street light flickers at night. Yes, there were times when she thought she might drop her candy basket and run home to her mother crying but this year Anna decided to become a big girl and earn extra sweets for herself without her big sister or mother accompanying her.
3. Proud of herself for not letting the street lights scare her, Anna opened a caramel candy and popped it in her mouth as a reward. "Ann…I've to rush to the supermarket to get some groceries, it will take me a while okay…you hear me dear?" Anna instantly replied "Yes, mom!" Anna went back to counting her candies from Halloween when suddenly she remembered her mother saying, "it will take me a while". Anna staring at her marshmallow collection started wondering what if she finished it all before her mother comes back?
4. Usually when she eats more than 3 pieces her mother gives her the look, first the look, than the full name and lastly the "no more candies for ten days as a punishment". A sudden impulse took over her and she started filling her mouth with marshmallows. First went the pink ones, then the yellow then the white. She was giggling internally thinking there's no one to give her the disapproving look. Anna thought to chew them at once and relish it all. The only problem was she couldn't move her jaw! She tried a few movements but she had stuffed too many of them. Her mouth hurt.
5. After 5 brave seconds Anna broke into tears in pain and frustration. But no one was in the house. Thinking about this made Anna's tears roll faster. Now she missed her mother's glare. It was not until an hour later her mother came home, by the time Anna had enough time to count the numbers of marshmallows she stuffed in her mouth. "8!" she thought to herself. It took her only eight of them to make her hate marshmallows for life.

The word 'impulse' in the 4th paragraph means _________.

Apressure

Read the passage and answer the questions that follow.
If you've read about the latest health trends, you may know that sugar is being listed as a major contributor to how overweight and unhealthy some people are. If you know people who have considered juicing, fasting or cleansing in an effort to lose weight or improve their well-being, you're probably aware that cutting out foods is not effective as a long-term lifestyle approach to healthy eating.
There is one kind of diet that is worthwhile, according to some experts, reducing sugar in your diet can help you drop pounds, improve your health and even give you more beautiful, radiant skin.
"Early on in my practice, when I would notice that people had real addiction to sugar, we'd start trying to wean them of sugar or limit their intake or eat in moderation, but the word 'moderation' it never worked," food expert Alpert said.
"What was so successful in getting my clients to kick their sugar habit was to go cold turkey which means to totally cut out sugars. When they did, I wasn't their favourite person, but the number one positive effect was that it recalibrated their palate," she said.
For the duration of the three day sugar detox, Alpert recommends no added sugars, but also no fruits, no starchy vegetables (such as corn, peas, sweet potatoes and butternut squash), no dairy, no grains and no alcohol. "You're basically eating protein, vegetables and healthy fats."
For example, breakfast can include three eggs, any style; lunch can include up to 6 ounces of poultry, fish or tofu and a green salad, and dinner is basically a larger version of lunch, though steamed vegetables, such as broccoli, kale and spinach can be eaten in place of salad. Snacks include a handful of nuts and sliced peppers with hummus. Beverages include water, unsweetened tea and black coffee.
Though they don't contribute calories, artificial sweeteners are not allowed on the plan, either. "These little pretty colored packets pack such a punch of sweetness, and that's how our palates get dulled and immune and less reactive to what sweetness really is," Alpert said. It now seems that consuming artificial sweeteners causes people not only to store more fat, they also end up overeating later on to compensate for the increased energy storage.

What benefit is there from not eating sugar?

ALess money waste
BBetter breathing
CBetter teeth
DBetter skin
