THE RED PLANET
Do you know there are many planets in our solar system and one of them is referred as 'the red planet'? This fourth planet from the sun, which is reddish in colour, is Mars. Mars gets its reddish colour from the high amount of iron oxide on its surface.
Mars is also home to Olympus Mons, the highest discovered mountain in the solar system. With its peak at 88,600 feet, Olympus Mons is about three times as high as Mount Everest, which is 29,029 feet, the highest peak on Earth. Mars' Valles Marineris is the solar system's largest canyon, measuring more than seven miles deep.
Of all the planets, temperatures on Mars are most similar to those on Earth. Unlike Earth, however, the thin atmosphere gives rise to fearsome dust storms that may envelop the entire planet and cause overall temperatures to rise. Mars has an extremely thin atmosphere.
95% of it is carbon dioxide, 3% is nitrogen, 1.6% is argon, and the remainder consists of traces of oxygen and water. Mars has two moons, Phobos and Deimos. Interestingly, Phobos orbits Mars at a distance of only about 5,500 miles from its center, the closest any moon orbits its parent planet. Because Phobos has a particularly low orbit, scientists believe it will eventually crash into Mars or break up into pieces, possibly forming rings around the planet like Saturn.
There has long been speculation concerning the possibility of life and of liquid water on Mars. Some evidence on the planet's surface suggests the presence of liquid water at some point in history, but scientists think this water would be too salty or acidic to support life. There is compelling evidence, however, that Mars was once much more habitable to life than it is today.
Many spacecraft have attempted to visit Mars, the most notable of which was NASA's Mariner 4, the first to visit in a fly-by in 1965. In 1976, Viking 1 and 2 became the first spacecrafts to conduct successful and sustained landings on Mars. They provided the first colour photographs of the "red planet". In May of 2008, the NASA Phoenix lander touched down on the north polar region of Mars to study surface features.
The thin atmosphere of Mars can cause scary ______.

There are two species of elephant seals, the northern and southern. Northern elephant seals can be found in California and Baja California, though they prefer to frequent offshore islands rather than the North American mainland.
Southern elephant seals live in sub- Antarctic and Antarctic waters that feature brutally cold conditions but are rich in the fish, squid, and other marine foods these seals enjoy. Southern elephant seals breed on land but spend their winters in the chilly Antarctic waters near the Antarctic pack ice. Do you know southern seals can dive over 4,921 feet (1,500 metres) deep and can remain submerged for up to two hours?
Southern elephant seals are the largest of all seals. Males can be over 20 feet (6 metres) long and weigh up to 8,800 pounds (4,000 kilograms). But these massive mammals with flippers aren’t called elephant seals because of their size. They take their name from their trunk like inflatable snouts.
The northern elephant seals live up to nine years whereas the southern ones can live up to 22 years. When breeding season arrives, male elephant seals define and defend territories. They collect a harem of 40 to 50 females, which are much smaller than their enormous mates. Males battle each other for dominance. Some encounters end with roaring and aggressive posturing, but many others turn into violent and bloody battles.
Sea elephants, as these seals are sometimes called, give birth in late winter to a single pup and nurse it for approximately a month. While suckling their young, females do not eat—both mother and child live off the energy stored in ample reserves of her fat. Females give birth to a single pup each year after a 11-month pregnancy.
Elephant seals migrate in search of food, spending months at sea and often diving deep to forage. They return to their rookeries in winter to breed and give birth. Though both male and female elephant seals spend time at sea, their migration routes and feeding habits differ: Males follow a more consistent route while females vary their routes in pursuit of moving prey.
Elephant seals were aggressively hunted for their oil, and their numbers were once reduced to the brink of extinction. Fortunately, populations have rebounded under legal protections.
Northern elephant seals don't like visiting the ___________.
BNorth American mainland
Cchilly Antarctic waters

A young man from the south of England has decided to ignore modern fast fashion and instead only ever wears clothes from the 1800s. He burnt his last pair of jeans when he was 14 and has dressed as a gentleman from the Regency era ever since. He often goes shopping in a top hat in his hometown of Brighton, and now designs clothes for other history fans too. He says it is the only way he feels comfortable in the 21st century.
At the age of 14, he had to wear school uniform most of the time. On non-school uniform days he would dress in three-piece suits. As a senior he didn't have to wear uniform and chose to wear his flamboyant clothes to school. He was quite surprised when he was voted as the best dressed in the leaver's book.
He says his obsession with historical clothes started when his family moved home as a teenager, and they found a box full of his great-grandfather's old suits. He found the period clothing fitted him well and began wearing them as much as he could.
Over the years he has gained a huge online following with close to 40,000 adoring fans subscribed so far. They all like keeping up to date with his period tailoring. For him, a typical day involves dressing as an 1820's gent, wearing a pair of knee-high leather riding boots, a floral waistcoat and a riding jacket with long tails just like a cape. It has been at least a decade since he has worn any modern clothing and the only time he can remember doing so was when he was invited to an 80s themed costume party.
It is amazing that his mother allowed him to be so eccentric and was understanding enough when he was younger to allow him to start his very different choice in dress.
He has 40,000 followers on the _____________ who think he has great style.
