The NSO exam is conducted annually by Science Olympiad Foundation, with the aim of challenging students problem solving ability while improving their analytical skills. NSO helps the students build a strong scientific acumen and a good base for higher classes.

Students can pass the NSO exam with flying colors by preparing holistically and practicing with the Class 12 NSO Sample Papers provided by SOF Olympiad Trainer. The NSO class 12 exam has 3 sections having a total of 50 questions carrying 60 marks. The Sectional breakup of NSO for class 12 is explained below:

  • Physics & Chemistry – This section has a total of 25 questions and aims at testing subject understanding and knowledge of physics and chemistry among the students.
  • Achiever’s section – This section consists of 5 questions of 3marks each and thus has higher weightage. It challenges the thinking ability of the students with questions revolving around amalgamation of concepts.
  • Mathematics/Biology – This section has 20 questions, of Maths and 20 questions of Biology. The student can select either of the two subjects. It tests the student’s in-depth understanding and conceptual knowledge of mathematics/biology as per the candidate’s choice.

The NSO level-1 exam has 60% questions from the current class’s syllabus and the rest from previous class’s syllabus. But the level-2 exam has questions from the current class’s syllabus only. Similarly, the achiever’s section has questions from the current class’s syllabus.

Syllabus for NSO for class 12:

Section – 1 : Physics : Electricity and Magnetism, Electromagnetic Induction, Alternating current, Electromagnetic waves, Optics, Modern Physics, Semiconductor Electronics, Communication Systems.
Chemistry : Solid State, Solutions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Surface Chemistry, General Principles and Processes of Isolation of Elements, p-Block Elements (Group 15 to 18), d- & f-Block Elements, Coordination Compounds, Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, Amines, Biomolecules, Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life.

Section – 2 : Higher Order Thinking Questions - Syllabus as per Section – 1.

Section – 3 : Relations and Functions, Inverse Trigonometric Functions, Matrices and Determinants, Continuity and Differentiability, Application of Derivatives, Integrals, Application of Integrals, Differential Equations, Vector Algebra, Three Dimensional Geometry, Probability, Linear Programming.
