How Do Students Qualify for Level 2 of IEO

Understanding the Selection Criteria

IEO eligibility criteria

The International English Olympiad (IEO) is a prestigious exam conducted by SOF, aimed at enhancing students’ English language skills. It is structured into two stages: Level 1 and Level 2. While all students from Classes 1 to 12 can participate in the Level 1 exam, the opportunity to compete in Level 2 is limited to Classes 3 to 12. This blog will explore the selection criteria for Level 2 of the IEO and provide insights into how students can qualify for this advanced stage.

What is Level 2 of the IEO?

Level 2 is designed to identify and evaluate the top-performing students from the first stage. It provides a platform for students to showcase their advanced English language skills and compete at a higher level. The Level 2 exam tests three key areas:

Differences Between Level 1 & Level 2 Olympiad Exam

While both levels evaluate students’ English language skills, there are significant differences:

Difficulty Level:

  • Level 1 Focuses on foundational knowledge like grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  • Level 2 Delves deeper into advanced concepts, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Intention and Competition:

  • Level 1 is open to all students from Classes 1 to 12, making it more inclusive.
  • Level 2 is exclusive to top performers, raising the bar for competition and evaluation.

Evaluation Standards:

  • Level 2 emphasizes the Achievers Section, designed to test higher-order thinking skills, making it more challenging than Level 1.

IEO Level 2 Selection Criteria

To ensure the best candidates qualify for Level 2, specific eligibility criteria are followed. Here’s how students can secure a spot in Level 2:

1. Top 5% Performers Globally

The top 5% of students class-wise from the Level 1 exam are eligible for Level 2.

In the event of a tie in marks, priority is given to performance in specific sections:

  • Achievers Section
  • Word Structure and Knowledge
  • Reading
  • Spoken and Written Expression

2. Top 25 Rank Holders Zone-Wise

From each class and zone, the top 25 rank holders are selected for Level 2. This ensures representation from various zones and creates a balanced competitive environment.

3. Class Toppers from Participating Schools

The topper of each class from participating schools qualifies, provided the following conditions are met:

  • At least 10 students from the class must appear for the Level 1 exam.
  • The class topper must score a minimum of 50% of the total marks in Level 1.

These criteria ensure that the selection process is inclusive and fair, recognizing talent at multiple levels.
