b because if we divide the into 2 part i.e 4 and 1/2 and 2 and 1/8 means 4-2 whloes is 2 1/2 and 1/8 way 1/2=2/4=4/8-1/8=3/8 hence ans 2 wholes and 3/8

B AS we convert mixed to improper fraction so 4 1/2 = 2 x 4 1 /2 = 9/2 2 1/8 = 8 x 2 1 / 8 = 17/8 Then we find equivalent fractions 9/2 = 9 x 4 / 2 x 4 = 36 / 8 and 17 / 8 will remain same as we know. Now we do subtraction. 36 / 8 - 17 / 8 = 36 - 17 / 8 = 19 / 8 = 19 divided by 8= Quotient=2, Remainder=3 so 2 3/8
