A bacteria undergoes binary fission in every minute. This bacterium can fill up a cup in 1 hour. In how much time will the cup be half filled?

A 30 minutes
B 59 minutes
C 20 minutes
D 40 minutes


The solution says B!!!

it should be 59 minutes as amoeba undergoes binary fission every minute. therefore,half of the jar will be filled in 59 minutes.after a minute it undergoes binary fission and fills the jar.

See...it has to be B as the bacteria doubles every minute...considering this if the cup is full at 60 minutes, it has to be half 1 minute ago, i.e, 59 minutes
