To test the presence of proteins in food sample, take some crushed food item in a test tube and add required amount of water to it. Then, add two drops of copper sulphate solution and ten drops of caustic soda solution to the test tube and shake it well. Leave the test tube undisturbed for few minutes and observe the colour change. If the colour of the food sample turns red then it indicates presence of proteins in the food sample.
