what do you mean by acids and bases in simple language?

Acids are the chemicals which contain hydrogen ions and taste sour. They attain a pH value below 7 and are corrosive in nature. Bases are generally hydroxides, carbonates, bicarbonates or oxides of metals and bitter to taste. They attain a pH value above 7 and are soapy to touch.

Acids are substance which are sour Bases are which are slippery/soapy to touch

some materials like lemon and vinegar taste sour due to the presence of materials/ chemicals called acids. some materials like baking soda taste bitter due to the presence of chemicals / materials called bases.

acid is a word which came from latin "acidus/acidum mean sour.bases are the substances which give bitter in taste.
