He moves 5 m closer12-5=7This is where confusion may set in. A lot of people have added X's distance from the mirror(2 m)7 2=9Here, we are getting the total as 9 m.. However, it is also necessary to add 2 m for the reflected ray to travel to X so that he can see the image.9 2=11Hence, the answer is 11 m.

@Rachita Gupta- They are asking how far away boy-y would appear to be from BOY-X not the mirror so I'm guessing it should be 9m.
