Raju, a farmer got his field checked for soil toxicity. The report showed high level of toxic chemicals in his field. How can these toxic chemicals in the soil be harmful?

If these toxic chemicals enter the nearby waterbodies, they cause the microalgae population in the water-body to grow uncontrollably, causing algal bloom. These algae lower the oxygen levels in the water and cause harm to aquatic life. Toxic chemicals mixed with soil and water are absorbed by food plants and they become unfit for consumption. Toxic chemicals in the soil will cause soil pollution and water pollution. They will not cause air pollution.
