Mrs. Kapoor had x m of ribbon. She cuts off 6 pieces of ribbon from it, each measuring 3 cm. What was the length of the ribbon left?

A (x - 9) cm
B (x - 18) cm
C (100x - 18) cm
D 82x cm

The correct answer is C..If you pay close attention to the question, you will realize that it says Xm not X cm. She cuts of 6 pieces of ribbon measuring 3cm each. 6 multiplied by 3 is equal to 18cm. Now to subtract 18 cm from Xm we must convert Xm into cm. We can do this by multiplying X into 100 , which is equal to 100X. Next we will subtract 18cm from 100X which is equal to (100X-18)cm.
