we can know that there is tilt as the seasons are caused mainly due to it. the other reason is that if the earth were straight, then it would have been normal days and nights on the poles, i.e., not a 6-month day and 6- month night....
In summers the earth's north pole is towards the sun, so it's completely dark in the south pole....
In winters, it is vice versa.
