A small plotting compass is placed between two strong magnets. The tip of the arrow represents the N-pole of the compass. What is the polarity of the end P of the right hand side magnet?

(A) South

(B) North

(C) East

(D) West

if the pole of the end p of the right hand side magnet will be north then it will not be possible for the compass needle to point towards a single direction .

Here, the answer is B. Since in a magnetic needle the arrow head is the North Pole, it will point towards the South Pole of the left hand side magnet and the other end of the magnetic needle (i.e; South Pole) will point towards the North Pole of the right hand side magnet. This is because like poles repel and unlike poles attract each other. Hence, the polarity of the end P of the right hand side magnet is North.
