Fill in the blanks with the correct auxiliary verbs from the choices given below :
Kittle cat and Mickie mouse ________ not live in the same house.

A shall
B have

Hi, just wanted to clarify a doubt...While answer D is correct, why is answer A wrong as it is grammatically correct?

Ans 1:

Why can't it be "shall'? Shall is an auxiliary verb too.

If 'shall' is placed instead of 'did', the sentence will be,"Kittie cat and Mickie mouse shall not live in the same house.",which is also grammatically correct. It can either be 'shall' or 'did'. SOF, kindly note it.
