If you clearly notice, the arrow is first coming in contact with Part Q, and the arrow is above in Part P. First, the magnet comes in contact with part Q, so when the iron rod is magnetised, Part Q will be North pole.

At first, I also thought that it will be A but if you see the figure closely, you can see that the magnet first comes in contact with point Q, it is rubbed till R and is then lifted at R point. So, Point Q would be the north pole and the point R would be the south pole
