The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used to transfer computer files between a client and server on a computer network. FTP is built on a client-server model architecture and uses separate control and data connections between the client and the server.
A local area network (LAN) is a computer network that interconnects computers within a limited area such as a residence, school, laboratory, university campus. A WAN connects different smaller networks, including local area networks (LAN) and metro area networks (MAN).
LAN is local area network. It is used to connect devices in local network. WAN is wide area network. It is used to connect in a wide area like across cities.
LAN means Local Area Network (i.e. a limited small area, for e.g., a computer lab) whereas WAN means Wide Area Network (i.e. a wide area such as the world, for e.g. internet).
Because the Internet is a global network of computers each computer connected to the Internet must have a unique address. Internet addresses are in the form nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn where nnn must be a number from 0 - 255. This address is known as an IP address. (IP stands for Internet Protocol; more on this later.)
