SUBTRACTION - ESSENTIAL POINTS
- Subtraction means to take away or deduct. For instance Prakash has 9 pencils. Out of that he distributes 5 pencils, then pencils now Prakash has 9 – 5 = 4 pencils.
- These are six stars.
Now if two stars are cut, four stars are left.
- These are five apples
If out of that three apple are eaten, then 2 apples are left. 5 -3 = 2 apples.
- If in a pond which has nine ducks, five ducks leave the pond, then four ducks are left in the pond now. 9 – 5 = 4 ducks.
- If you take away three from seven, four is left.
- If we subtract 3 tens and 6 ones from 8 tens and 9 ones it is 5 tens and 3 ones. 89 – 36 = 53
- Observe these numbers - 32, 46, 26, 49, 97, 67, 91. The highest number is 97 and the lowest number is 26. If the lowest number is subtracted from highest number it is 97 – 26 = 71.
- There are 16 pieces of chocolate. In order that 7 pieces of chocolate must be left, 9 pieces of chocolate must be eaten.
- When five stars out of forty seven stars five stars are cut, it is four tens and two ones or 42.
- When out of 8 tens and 6 ones, five tens and 4 ones is subtracted, as shown on abacus we would obtain 86 – 54 = 32 or 3 tens and 2 ones.
- If you have 16 toffees and you distribute 11 toffees, then you have 5 toffees left. ( 16 – 11 )
