  • Microsoft word or MS-Word (often called word) is a graphical word processing program by Microsoft Corporation. The purpose of the MS Word is to allow the users to type and save documents. Similar to other word processors, it has various helpful tools to make documents.
  • Basic Keyboard Shortcuts:

    Ctrl + 0(Zero) Toggles 6pts of spacing before a paragraph.
    Ctrl + A Select all contents of the page.
    Ctrl + B Bold highlighted selection.
    Ctrl + C Copy selected text.
    Ctrl + D Open the font preferences window.
    Ctrl + K Insert a hyperlink.
    Ctrl + Shift + L Quickly create a bullet point.
    Ctrl + Shift + F Change the font.
    Shift + Alt + D Insert the current date.

    Ctrl + Q Remove the formatting of highlighted text (you can always Ctrl+Z to undo)
    Ctrl + Shift + W Apply an underline only to words, not to spaces, in a selected line of text.

    Alt + Ctrl + C Copyright symbol
    Alt + Ctrl + fullstop/period Insert an ellipsis, without having to type three dots!
    Shift + F3 Change the text in Microsoft Word from uppercase to lowercase or a capital letter at the beginning of every word.
    F12 SaveAs
    Ctrl + End Moves the cursor to the end of the document.

  • Mail Merge: The automatic addition of names and addresses from a database to letters and envelopes in order to facilitate sending mail, especially advertising, to many addresses. In word it exist in Mailings tab.
    To use Mail Merge: Open an existing Word document, or create a new one. Click the Mailings tab. Click the Start Mail Merge command. Select Step by Step Mail Merge Wizard. Selecting Step by Step Mail Merge Wizard.
  • Double-click anywhere and begin typing. You don�t need to bother with positioning a cursor if you don�t want to. This is the closest Microsoft Word\ comes to freestyle writing. Click and Type has existed since Word 2002.
  • Microsoft Word makes it easy to convert tabular information into a chart. When you don�t have too much of tabular data, create a chart in Word instead of over-killing with Excel.
  • Use the Equation Toolbar to design your own advanced equations for mathematics, physics, or chemistry. Word gives you many well-known equations to insert with just a click.
  • Kerning adjusts the space between two individual letters for a better visual look. When designing a document, each typeface requires its own specific kerning. Kerning becomes important when you are designing with large fonts on Word.
  • Hidden Text is a non-printing character attribute that has its usefulness. Hiding text can be useful in many situations such as:
    • Create a simple quiz by hiding the answers.
    • Control the layout for some specific printing job by inserting hidden text, and many more.
  • The Style Inspector is a pane that shows you the paragraph formatting separated from the text formatting.
